Our mission is to give aspiring career pilots an academic foundation that continues to support them throughout training.
Flavored Flight organizes the FAA knowledge areas into one progression leading to the Ground Instructor standard. Written tests mark progress through the curriculum, and guided concept explanations show where a student's understanding is solid and where more work is needed. Flight training begins after that knowledge has already been developed.
How We Teach
We teach aviation as a connected body of knowledge, returning to earlier concepts as later stages add context and using guided concept explanations to develop understanding in the student's own words.
Why Teaching Proficiency
Teaching exposes the difference between recognizing an answer and truly understanding it. When you are responsible for explaining a concept, you have to know why it works. You have to answer questions, work through misunderstandings, and adapt your explanation when someone sees it differently.
That is the level of understanding we want every student to reach, whether they plan to become a flight instructor or continue directly toward another flying career.
Why the Ground Instructor Standard
The FAA Ground Instructor license represents a level of aeronautical knowledge and instructional ability recognized by the FAA.
We built the program so students work toward that level of understanding from the beginning, and the license recognizes the knowledge developed across the earlier stages.
Our Story
Flavored Flight was founded by a pilot whose background in science and education had already shown him how technical knowledge becomes useful through application.
During pilot and instructor training, he saw the same aviation subjects divided across separate tests, ratings, and regulatory milestones.
The Ground Instructor pathway offered a way to bring those subjects into a single educational progression. Flavored Flight was built from that approach, beginning with the academic knowledge and using teaching proficiency to determine whether the student understands it.
Where We Are Headed
Flavored Flight currently provides one-on-one instruction online and in person. The company is also building a complete self-paced curriculum, integrated student and instructor tools, and additional resources for use throughout training. A network of remote and local ground instructors will grow with the program.
